Documentation and sanitary requirements: why product, origin and destination change everything

In international operations involving food and beverages, there is no universal list of documents that works for every product and market.
Requirements may change depending on the nature of the product, its composition, origin, destination, presentation and use. Sanitary certificates, registrations, licenses, certificates of origin, lab analyses and labeling requirements are some of the elements that may be part of an operation.
This means the documentation review should start early. Discovering a requirement only when the goods are ready to ship can cause delays, additional costs or even make an operation unfeasible.
It is also important to understand which participants are responsible for issuing, checking and submitting each document.
The sooner product, origin and destination are analyzed together, the greater the chance of structuring the operation in an organized way.
